2017: Two longtime contributors inducted into Spokane Area Volleyball Referees Hall of Fame

Longtime Spokane volleyball referees and contributors Barb Silvey and Dale Goodwin were inducted into the Spokane Area Volleyball Referees Association Hall of Fame Nov. 13 at the association’s annual awards banquet.

Silvey has officiated volleyball for 42 years, was Spokane’s first National-rated official, worked the NCAA Division I National Championship tournament five times and the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 2010-12, and earned the 25-year Award from the Inland Northwest Sports Writers and Broadcasters. She is honored on the Rogers High School Walk of Fame.

Goodwin has officiated the sport for 37 years, worked 10 NCAA Division I National Championship Tournaments and three NAIA championships, co-founded SAVRA’s advanced training program in 1994 and served on the executive planning committees for the Washington Centennial and Goodwill games. He is a member of the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials and Inland Northwest Sports Halls of Fame.

Both have refereed numerous state high school tournament championship matches, and served as the association president a number of times.
