Calling all Refs, Line Judges to July 12 SFCC Camp at WVHS
SAVRA's summer referee and line judge training camp, run concurrently with SFCC's summer high school camp, is your chance to get on the stand or on the floor, officiate with a mentor standing by, and learn how to improve your game -- from presentation and technique, to applying the correct rules in a particular situation. Ask all the questions you want. We are NOT evaluating you, we are nurturing your development as an official or line judge. Registration for this event has been low. Newbies and mid-level officials alike, please join us as we help prepare you for the upcoming season. Mentors, this is your time to give back.

Line Judge, Scorer Training Added Aug. 19
Training and certification for line judges and scorers is scheduled Sunday, Aug. 19, at Gonzaga University's Jepson Center, Room 014. Training for scorers is scheduled 1-2:30 p.m., line judges 2:30-4 p.m. Anyone hoping to line judge or score this year should attend the appropriate clinic.

- NCAA/PAVO Clinic, Aug. 12, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., register at www.pavo.org, by Aug. 7. $35 for PAVO members, $40 for non-PAVO/non-college officials, $80 for non-PAVO members/college officials. PAVO administers a $50 walk-up fee for those who did not pre-register.
- First basic training for all new and second-year officials, Aug. 12, 2:30-3:30 p.m., GU Jepson Center 018
- College refresher training, for refs new to college officiating or almost there, Aug. 12, 2:30-3:30, GU Jepson Center 014
- First general membership meeting Aug. 19, 6-7 p.m., GU Jepson Center 017; basic training at 5 p.m., Jepson 018, and advanced training, Jepson 014, 5 p.m.
Hats off to Roland Madany; Others
A tip of the hat to longtime SAVRA official Roland Madany (pictured above) for organizing and administering the Boys' Border Smackdown tournament, May 19-20 at the Spokane Convention Center. The event was well-run and the officiating crew posed no issues for the head referee, Barb Twohig reports. Great to see boys volleyball taking hold in the Pacific Northwest.
SAVRA, in conjunction with the HUB and the Evergreen Region, mentored officials officiating a series of three all-star matches at the HUB, May 5. Officials participating, either as mentees or mentors: Alex Collins, Shawna Sheehan, Matt Halpin, Jodi Murphy, Devin Darrough, Keith Ward, Rusty Wellman, Barb Twohig and Dale Goodwin.
